Building static sites is harder than it should be.
I do not want:
- Magic frontmatter which might change if I want to change my theme
- TOML or YAML configuration files where I'll forget buried configs
- Plugins which are fragile, fall into neglect and break on an upgrade
I do want:
- Speed, speed, speed
- Incremental builds
- Convention over configuration.
Today, I've released Jackdaw, a stupidly simple, stupidly fast static site generator. It takes ERB template files, a site-wide layout, and let's you build whatever pages you want from whatever templates you can build.
You can wire it up to Cloudflare Pages or equivalent really easily. Check it out, it's self-hosted with the docs built with Jackdaw https://usejackdaw.com
